Building Amazing Machines—and Skills for Success in Life

Collaboration. Teamwork. Project Management. Communication. Critical Thinking. Creative Problem-Solving. Resilience. These are just some of the skills students develop through our award-winning Robotics program.

In Robotics, students in the Middle and Upper Schools design, build and program complex robots for competitions through VEX Robotics. In addition to learning engineering and computer programming, students in Robotics develop skills that will serve them well in their careers and lives.

The program was founded in 2010 by teaching fellow and alumnus Bryan Rich '06. Now an engineer at the team’s sponsor, AECOM, Coach Rich led Kent Denver Robotics to national and international prominence with multiple state titles and VEX World Championship Awards.

Alainey Hellman took over the program as the new head coach in 2019 and continued to build off that success—leading Kent Denver to a school best second-place finish at the 2021 VEX Robotics World Championships.

“I love the robotics program because it offers me a chance to learn how to lead a team and test my knowledge of advanced engineering topics, all in a super fun and competitive team environment. ”
