Our Sun Devils sports teams are off to an incredible start this winter season! The varsity boys basketball team remains undefeated at 4-0 after winning the Herman Schayes Tournament to begin the year and then following that up with an incredible 97-95 double overtime win Tuesday night at Smoky Hill High School! Caleb F. ’26—who became the youngest player in Kent Denver basketball history to reach 1,000 career points last week—scored 24 points. Elvis L. ’25 had a game-high 34 points and the game-winning tip-in in the final seconds to help Kent Denver upset the Buffaloes, who entered the season as the No. 2 ranked team in Class 6A. The Sun Devils are back in action Thursday, December 12 against Aurora Central at 7 p.m. at Mullen High School in the Mullen Invitational.
In ice hockey, the Sun Devils have won four straight games to improve to 4-1 on the year. During that stretch, Kent Denver has been averaging an impressive 7.5 goals per game. Jack D. ’25 (8 goals this season), Bodie T. ’25 (7 goals) and Ryan O. ’26 (6 goals) have led the way in scoring so far for the Sun Devils, who play again Saturday, December 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Air Academy.
In swimming & diving, the Kent Denver swim team opened the season last week with an impressive 70-36 win over Colorado Academy. We’ve also already had several athletes—Dea M. ’25 and Liz K. ’28 (diving), Rachel P. ’25 (100 breaststroke) and our 200 freestyle relay team—qualify for state! The Sun Devils are back in action again Thursday, December 12 in Woodland Park in a tri-meet with CA and Woodland Park.
The Kent Denver girls basketball team opened its season last week with a narrow victory over Timnath. After a few hard-fought losses, the Sun Devils will look to bounce back Friday, December 13 at 5:30 p.m. in their next game at Fort Collins High School.
