Winter Sports Highlights

We’re nearing the halfway point of the winter sports season here at Kent Denver, and our Sun Devils continue to shine on the court, on the ice and in the pool.

In swim & dive, Kent Denver is competing on Saturday, January 11 at the Smoky Hill Invite! It’s been a great season for the entire team so far—particularly for Elsa A. ’28, who has made an immediate positive impact as a 9th grader. At a meet last month in Woodland Park, she broke four pool records in the 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle and as a member of the 400 Freestyle Relay. She followed that up by finishing third overall in the 200 Freestyle at the All-State Coaches Invitational, as well as fifth overall in the 100 Fly—a performance that is also now a new school record! Elsa was also a member of our 400 Freestyle Relay team that just posted a new school record.

The boys basketball team is 9-2 on the season and ranked as the No. 2 team in Class 4A. The Sun Devils just beat Douglas County 89-50 and play again on Wednesday, January 15 and Thursday, January 16 in back-to-back home games against The Academy and Jefferson Academy. Junior Caleb F. is leading the team with 23 points per game—which included a monster 47-point performance earlier this season against Mullen.

After a challenging early season schedule against several larger schools from around the state, the Kent Denver girls basketball team currently sits at 3-8, with one more home game on Thursday, January 9 at 5:30 p.m. against Overland before beginning league play next week. Junior Austin D. has had a tremendous season for the Sun Devils thus far, averaging over 17 points and 11 rebounds per game.

The varsity ice hockey team is 5-2 on the season and ranked No. 4 in Class 4A. Kent Denver has a big game coming up on Friday, January 10 at 8:30 p.m. against Colorado Academy at the University of Denver’s Joy Burns Arena. This will be the first of two meetings against CA this regular season. The next is Tuesday, February 4, when three Sun Devil varsity sports teams will play the Mustangs at DU during our second annual Winter Showdown Series. See the full schedule below:
