Sun Devils Gear Up for Showdown with CA

Sun Devils Gear Up for Showdown with CA

Kent Denver is looking to tame the ‘stangs this Homecoming weekend as we go head-to-head with Colorado Academy in four varsity matchups, plus a number of C team, JV and varsity 2 games.

Our No. 2-ranked field hockey team is coming into the matchup 7-0-1, having already beaten CA 3-2 in the season's first game. Junior Alden C. leads the team with nine goals and hit a major milestone during Wednesday’s win against Pine Creek—100 career points! Come out to cheer on our Sun Devils as they take on the No. 1-ranked Mustangs Saturday at 10 a.m. on Horn Family Field.

Coming off a 6-0 conference win over Forge Christian on Tuesday, boys soccer looks to keep the momentum going as the team faces CA at 10 a.m. Saturday on DeSo Field. With four shutouts, the team sits at 3-1-3, having scored 19 goals and allowed only four. Junior Sunand D. boasts seven of those goals and also leads the No. 6-ranked Sun Devils with five assists.

Boys tennis players high fiving

At 8-2, boys tennis has dominated the competition. The team took third at the Full Send Tournament this past weekend, with Cameron Windfeldt ’30 (No. 3 Singles) and Ollie Nelson ’27 and Henry Redmond ’30 (No. 4 Doubles) winning their lines. With a packed schedule this week, the team beat Denver East on Wednesday and lost 4-3 in a thriller rematch against Cherry Creek on Thursday. Our Sun Devils were scheduled to take on CA on Friday, but the match was postponed due to weather.

Volleyball continues its impressive start to the season, with a 9-3 record. The team hosted the inaugural Sun Devil Invitational this past weekend and came out on top! The Sun Devils went 2-0 in pool play with sweeps over John Paul the Great and Pomona before falling to Dayspring Christian Academy. But the team bounced back to beat the Eagles in straight sets and claim the championship! The Sun Devils will battle the Mustangs Friday at 6:15 p.m.

Boys golf has officially clinched the Metro League title, and sophomore Zach Z. was named Metro League Player of the Year! The team completed its final Metro League Match Wednesday with an impressive third-place finish. Sophomore Carson L. shot a 70 to take third overall, while sophomores Zach and Jack F. finished in the top 10. Over seven league matches, the Sun Devils claimed first prize three times and never placed lower than third. The team is now preparing for state, which tees off October 5-6.

KDS Cross Country

Cross country has a lot to celebrate, with the girls team claiming top prize at the Sun Runner Invitational! Penny K. ’28 took second place individually, while Anna M. ’28 (6th), Taylor G. ’27 (7th), Addison R. ’28 (12th) and Charlotte H. ’27 (14th) all finished in the top 15. On the boys side, the team finished fifth, with Jack Z. ’29 in the top 30.

At Runners Roost, the teams’ most recent meet, the girls placed fourth overall, with Taylor and Penny finishing in the top 15, while the boys took 13th. The teams race at the Dave Sanders Invitational on Friday.

Football is still on the hunt for the team’s first win, following a competitive 38-29 loss to Green Mountain last week. The Sun Devils take on Standley Lake at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the finale of our Homecoming matchups.

Good luck to all of our Sun Devils this weekend! Watch Kent Denver's Instagram for highlights, and check out the Schedules and Scores page for all the upcoming games and varsity results. Go Sun Devils!
