A Great Season for Middle School Sports

Middle school athletes celebrated a successful winter season, which ends this Friday. The 8th grade girls and boys basketball teams ended the season 12-0 and 9-2, respectively, capping off a highly successful three-year middle school career in which the girls went undefeated and the boys only lost three games. After an undefeated season last year, the 7th grade girls basketball team continued their success with a 9-1 record, while the 7th grade boys went 4-6, improving their record from the previous year. In their first year playing Kent Denver basketball, the 6th grade boys went undefeated at 9-0 while the girls’ team had a record of 4-4-1. The intramural basketball teams had fun and worked hard to build their skills, culminating in a league tournament in which Team 4 will play Team 3 for the championship this week.

Off the court, middle schoolers shined in outdoor ed, rock climbing, fitness, independent sports, robotics and drama. Despite the cold, outdoor ed students kept their energy levels high as they explored and played outside of the classroom. Rock climbers showed commitment to their craft and went off-campus every day to the Denver Bouldering Club in Englewood. Fitness classes worked on strength and flexibility through resistance training, performance and yoga. On the stage, the Kent Denver Players performed four amazing One Act plays that were fabulously entertaining and well received by their peers. In the after-school robotics club, students practiced teamwork and learned new skills. Finally, several athletes had successful seasons engaging in independent sports, such as swimming and ice hockey.

"I'm proud of the efforts of all of our middle school students during the winter sports season and I’m looking forward to more great learning opportunities and community-building moments this spring!" said Stephanie Kyser, Assistant Head of Athletics.
