Students, Teachers Attend Day of Affinity

Students, Teachers Attend Day of Affinity

In October, eight Kent Denver 7th and 8th grade students attended a Day of Affinity event hosted by the International School of Denver.

The event, which was created for 5th through 8th grade BIPOC students from schools across Colorado, centered around the theme “Walk in Our Shoes.” After attending workshops for conversation and reflection, participants closed out the day with an opportunity to hear from the University of Denver Women’s Basketball Head Coach Doshia Woods, DU basketball player Brooke Murrell and DU lacrosse goalie Lexi Gwaku.

Middle School Diversity Coordinator Ashley Farris and Upper School English Teacher Kamden Hilliard accompanied Kent Denver's students to the event, and Mx. Hilliard facilitated an affinity space activity for 5th-graders.

"Working with bright, thoughtful and brave 5th graders in the African-American/Black affinity space was very meaningful," Mx. Hilliard reflected. "The students shared powerful stories and offered meaningful support to one another that I am sure will serve them far into the future."
