Strong Start for KDS Athletics

Strong Start for KDS Athletics

Fall sports are in full swing at Kent Denver, and our Sun Devils have started the season strong! Boys golf is the top team in the Metro League, leading the rest of the pack by 10 strokes. Zach ’29 has been a standout, taking second in the first match and tying for first at Broadlands and Aurora Hills, along with teammate Chase ’28. In the team’s most recent Metro League match on Wednesday, the Sun Devils came in second as a team, with Blake ’27 and Jack ’29 finishing in a tie for third individually.

Our reigning state runner-up field hockey team is undefeated and ranked second in the state, thanks to a 3-2 win over Colorado Academy and a 2-0 shutout against Boulder Valley. Alden ’28 has netted four of the team’s five goals thus far. The Sun Devils are back in action at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Cherry Creek.

Ranked No. 8 in the state for Class 3A, volleyball also started the season undefeated, winning all three of its matches in straight sets. Mosley ’29 leads the Sun Devils with 23 kills. The team’s home opener is Thursday against Strasburg. Catch the match at 6:15 p.m. in Yates Pavilion.

KDS Cross Country

Our cross country team has had an impressive start against some very strong competition. At the first meet of the season, the girls team finished fourth, highlighted by Penny ’28, who earned second with a time of 19:39! The boys team took seventh, led by Maddox ’27, who placed 15th with a time of 18:41. At the Husky Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday, the girls team took sixth—with Penny earning fourth individually—while the boys finished 11th. The team’s next race is the Liberty Bell Invitational at Heritage High School this Saturday at 9 a.m.

After taking second in the state last year for 4A, our boys tennis team is now competing in Class 5A. The Sun Devils are 3-1 on the season, sweeping D’Evelyn and Grandview 7-0 and coming out on top against Arapahoe 5-2. The team’s match at Fossil Ridge High School is at 4 p.m. Thursday.

KDS Boys Soccer

As the defending 3A state champions, our boys soccer team—now playing in Class 4A—started the season with a bang, shutting out Green Mountain 6-0. Sunand ’28 led the way, scoring five goals—four in the first half alone! The team is looking to gain back that momentum after falling 2-1 to Mullen and drawing 0-0 against Littleton. The Sun Devils take DeSo Field again on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. against Lutheran.

Our football team, which moved up to Class 3A this year, is looking for its first win Friday at Denver Christian. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The team lost the season opener against Forge Christian last week. The Sun Devils’ first home game is next Friday, September 11 at 4 p.m. vs. Eaton High School.

It’s an exciting season for fall sports! Find game times and results on our Schedules & Scores page, and make sure to follow Kent Denver Athletics on Instagram for recaps and photos. Go Sun Devils!
