Snow Doesn’t Dampen Spring Showdown

Snow Doesn’t Dampen Spring Showdown

Despite a spring snowstorm last week that forced our Showdown Series to reschedule over the course of several days, our Sun Devil spirit was strong! Over five varsity matchups, Kent Denver came out on top against Colorado Academy, beating the Mustangs in girls tennis, girls soccer and baseball (twice!).

Girls tennis started its playoff push this week, and regular-season play wraps up for lacrosse and girls soccer next week. Read below for a full update on each of our spring sports!

Baseball
Our baseball team made a statement against Colorado Academy—beating the Mustangs 10-7 in the Showdown Series matchup at CA on Saturday and then winning again 5-4 at home on Tuesday.

The team is currently 10-5 in its first season under new Head Coach Chris Tierney ’94, and is back in action against St. Mary’s Thursday at 4:15 p.m. on Judd’s Field.

Girls Golf
Kent Denver’s girls golf team is holding steady in each of its Metro League tournaments—placing 6th at Fox Hollow Golf Course on April 14 and 3rd at CA on Tuesday.

KDS Boys Lacrosse

The team’s next match is on Tuesday, April 28 at Glenmoor Golf Course.

Boys Lacrosse
With three games left in the regular season, our boys lacrosse team is still fighting for its first win. Hadyn ’26 leads the team with eight goals, and Conor ’29 has put up the most assists with seven.

The team faces Grandview Friday at 4:30 p.m. on DeSo Field. During halftime, the annual Tom Graesser Lacrosse Award of Honor will be presented to Danny Cisneros ’80. All lacrosse alumni will be invited to the field for the award ceremony.

Girls Lacrosse
After a hard-fought 8-6 loss against CA as part of the Showdown, the girls lacrosse team bounced right back, upsetting No. 2-ranked Fairview 6-3 in a league matchup on Tuesday. The Sun Devils are ranked No. 6 in the state for Class 5A and are in second place in the 5A West League behind Valor Christian, the team’s only league loss this season.

Girls lacrosse plays again Thursday at 7 p.m. against Ralston Valley at the North Area Athletics Complex.

Girls Soccer
Kent Denver’s girls soccer team is on an absolute tear, boasting a seven-game winning streak that have all been shutouts. So far this season, our team has netted 48 goals and allowed only six. At 10-2 overall, and with no league losses, the Sun Devils are ranked No. 1 in the state for Class 3A.

The team takes the field against St. Mary’s Academy Thursday at 4:15 p.m. on DeSo Field.

Girls Tennis
The playoffs are underway for girls tennis in the team tournament! As the No. 2 seed in CHSAA’s Class 4A bracket, the Sun Devils defeated No. 15 Discovery Canyon in the first round on Wednesday. The team takes on No. 7 Durango in the quarterfinals Friday, starting at 2:30 p.m. on the KDS tennis courts.

KDS Girls Track

Track and Field
Our track and field team continues to dominate, with a number of podium finishes over the past few weeks. At the TJ Twilight Meet at All City Stadium on April 10, Linden ’28 placed first in girls discus throw and third in shot put, and our girls 4x800m relay team took home silver. At the Pomona Invite at Jeffco Stadium that same day, Maddox ’27 placed second in the boys 400m.

Our team saw great success at the Huskie Twilight on Monday. Solo ’26 took first in both of his events—the boys 110m hurdles and boys long jump, which he completed with a distance of 21 ft. 8 in., almost a full foot longer than the next competitor! Congratulations also to Alex ’26 (1st place, girls 300m hurdles), Penny ’28 (3rd place, girls 800m) and our girls 4x400m relay team (2nd place).

That success continued at the Englewood Open on Tuesday. Linden again took first in girls discus, with a throw more than 20 feet farther than the next opponent, while Scarlett ’27 placed second in the girls 200m. Aaron ’29 and PJ ’29 tied for second in boys high jump, and Carter ’28 took third in the boys 100m.

The team is back in action Friday and Saturday for the Liberty Bell Invitational before the Metro League Championships on Saturday, May 2.
