Signature Seasons for Our Signature Programs

Signature Seasons for Our Signature Programs

From national tournaments to the playoffs, it's been a fantastic season for Kent Denver's Signature Programs. Read on for recent highlights from Mock Trial, Model UN, Speech and Debate, and Robotics.

Model UN Impresses at Chicago Conference

In mid-February, 23 students from our Sun Devils Model United Nations (SUNMUN) program traveled to the Windy City to attend the four-day Model United Nations of the University of Chicago (MUNUC) conference alongside 2600 other students from over 150 schools. This was the 37th annual conference hosted by MUNUC and Kent Denver’s first time attending. Senior Maggie F. impressed with a second-place award in her Environmental Protection Agency council.

The 13 seniors, two juniors, seven sophomores, and one freshman in attendance had a great time participating in the conference and exploring Chicago. When they weren’t debating, negotiating, or drafting resolutions, students took in the city sights, with highlights including a visit to “the Bean” in Millenium Park, spending time at the Art Institute, and enjoying some delicious local cuisine, including a team dinner in Chinatown.

"This was my fourth national conference during my time at Kent, and it was incredibly sentimental to finish my last one as a senior and Secretary-General of the club. I loved meeting new people who share my passion for Model UN—this conference was a great opportunity to not only engage in intense debates but also form real connections. Aside from that, I loved exploring the city of Chicago. It was my first time visiting, and despite the freezing temperatures, Chicago has its own unique sparkle. I had so much fun, and will never forget this trip!" said Sonia M. ‘25

The Kent Denver Speech and Debate team traveled to Berkeley, CA, for the 2025 Cal Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament. Our Kent Denver competitors performed very well against nearly 200 schools and over 1,000 entries. Matilda V. ‘25 finished as an octafinalist (top 48) in Impromptu Speaking, and Lucas V. ‘27 made it to the quarterfinals (top 24) in Original Oratory. We wish the whole team the best of luck at the upcoming CHSAA 5A State Championship.

The Robotics teams put together an outstanding performance at their latest VEX competition in Bullard Gymnasium, where three Upper School and two Middle School teams represented Kent Denver. All five teams performed extremely well and demonstrated excellent driving skills. In the high school division, the 3946E team made it to the semifinals and the 3946S and W team went to the quarterfinals. One middle school team, 3946R, qualified for the State Championship based on their performance in the “skills” section of the tournament.

Among all Kent Denver Robotics teams, two are currently qualified for the State Championship and the remaining four hope to qualify after the final tournament of the season.
