Model UN Explores the Big Apple

Model UN Explores the Big Apple

Thirty Model UN students spent the long weekend in New York City to attend the 25th Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition alongside more than 720 delegates from 57 schools across the country and world. Sophomore Axel won an Outstanding Delegate award, placing him in the top 4% of all conference participants.

“I participate in the AD HOC committee, which differs from usual committees by keeping the topic and roles secret until the council begins, which has pushed me to think on my feet and adapt to evolving crises,” said Axel, who was excited to compete at an international level. “This council focused heavily on moderated caucuses (speeches) and writing directives. Before this council, those were my weaker spots in Model UN, but after three days of constant writing and speaking in front of a large group, I was able to significantly improve these skills and win the Outstanding Delegate award. On top of participating in one of my favorite councils, I also got to explore the city with friends, eat great pizza, and make lifelong memories.”

Outside of the conference, the students braved the cold and made the most of their time in the Big Apple. Staying near Times Square, our Sun Devils visited Rockefeller Center and NYU, walked through Central Park and enjoyed a guided tour of the Museum of Modern Art.
