Middle School Journalist Earns Superior Award

Middle School Journalist Earns Superior Award

Kent Denver is excited to share that Esme ’32 received a Superior Award in News Writing from the 2026 Journalism Education Association Junior High/Middle School National Media Contest! This is the first time the Middle School newspaper, The Scoop, has been honored with a Superior award, and it’s only the third Superior ranking in the history of Kent Denver’s journalism program.

Esme received the honor for her investigative piece, "The Vanishing of the Swing Chair," which dug into the fate of the beloved hanging chair in the Middle School’s Centennial Center. Her piece was one of just 48 that received a Superior distinction, out of more than 300 student submissions nationwide. Congratulations to Esme and our entire Middle School journalism elective!
