Kent Denver Welcomes New Track & Field Coach

Kent Denver Welcomes New Track & Field Coach

Kent Denver is excited to welcome David Cohen as the new varsity head coach and leader of our 6-12 track and field program. With a decorated high school and collegiate coaching career spanning three decades—including as an assistant last year at Kent Denver—Coach Cohen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes him the ideal candidate to step into this new role.

Coach Cohen began his coaching career in Connecticut in 1994 as the head boys and girls track and field coach at Wamogo Regional High School and the head boys cross country coach at Holy Cross High School. He later was an assistant track and field coach at Florida State University while he earned two master's degrees. At Florida State, Coach Cohen helped recruit and develop numerous All-Americans, two NCAA champions and three Olympians.

Coach Cohen was the head boys and girls track and field coach at Thomas Jefferson High School from 2005-2013, where he was named Denver Public Schools Coach of the Year in 2010. During his tenure, he led his team to a Class 5A Regional Championship and three Denver City titles. He also helped quadruple participation in the program—leading to several of his athletes going on to compete in the sport in college.

He is already very familiar with Kent Denver's program, having spent last season as an assistant coach under Corky Dean—who stepped down from his position at the conclusion of last season. Now the head coach at Kent Denver, Coach Cohen is excited to lead the Sun Devils into the future.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to build on the success the track and field program achieved under Coach Dean,” said Coach Cohen. “Working with the team last year allowed me to experience the amazing environment Kent Denver fosters. The student-athletes' work ethic, diverse interests and opportunistic spirit are truly incredible. I can’t wait to get started!”

Coach Cohen will begin his tenure with the Kent Denver track and field team this spring. Head to our track and field page to learn more about the program.
