Kent Denver Welcomes Alum Chris Tierney as New Head Baseball Coach

Kent Denver is thrilled to announce Chris Tierney ’94 as the new varsity head coach and leader of our 6-12 baseball program. Coach Tierney’s passion for Sun Devils baseball runs deep—he was a bat boy when his older brother played in 1987 before he joined the varsity team at shortstop in 1993 and 1994. As a multi-sport athlete, Coach Tierney lettered in four sports during his time at Kent Denver and helped lead the baseball team to its 1993 state championship.

“We are so excited to welcome Coach Tierney back home to Kent Denver,” said KDS Athletic Director Jeff Hollway. “As an alum of our baseball program, he knows what it means to be a Sun Devil—on and off the field—and there’s no one better suited to lead our teams into a bright future ahead.”

After graduating from Kent Denver, Coach Tierney went on to play baseball at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. He then returned to Colorado and founded the Denver Metro Stars baseball club, a summer and fall baseball program focused on the development and showcase of high school athletes. The success of the program led La Junta High School to recruit Coach Tierney to be the team’s head coach at just 26 years old. He helped guide the Tigers to a state championship appearance in 2003. After taking a few years off from coaching, Coach Tierney returned last year as the JV head baseball coach at Regis Jesuit High School, where he led the program to a 15-3 record. Now, he can’t wait to continue his coaching career at his alma mater.

“The Kent Denver community and the school's baseball program has been an important part of my life. Being named the program's next head coach is an honor for me and my family. It is an opportunity that I will meet with enthusiasm and great pride,” Coach Tierney said. “Our goal is to utilize the sport of baseball to aid in the development of young men of character and genuine self-confidence, while representing the Kent Denver community in a positive manner.  Let's get to work!”
