Kent Denver Students Celebrate International Women's Day

Kent Denver Students Celebrate International Women's Day

A group of Kent Denver students joined one of the country’s largest International Women’s Day celebrations at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 6. International Women’s Day is recognized globally on March 8, and each year, WorldDenver brings together hundreds of students, supporters, elected officials and community and business leaders to honor global impact, local leadership and the women shaping our world. This year, the 17 Kent Denver students who attended had the opportunity to hear from Laura Chinchilla Miranda, Costa Rica's first woman president, in an inspiring keynote address. A few students were even able to meet her after her speech.

“By going to the luncheon, I learned so much about the journeys of many inspiring, successful women and was able to understand what they had to endure, along with the resources and confidence they used to earn their success,” said Julia ’29, one of the students who met Former President Chinchilla.

"Attending the International Women's Day luncheon was a strong reminder for me and our students about what it feels like to be empowered by love, care, and empathy! It was great to listen to strong business women in the Denver area as well as watch our Upper School students lead fun activities for younger students. The event was very fun, uplifting, and a much-needed boost as we finish the school year strong."

“Although we were only there for a day, the event overall provided a holistic view of what women CEOs across the country are doing! My favorite parts of the experience were getting to hear the ex-president of Costa Rica speak about her experiences and also hearing from the panelists who talked at the luncheon.”

“I have attended the WorldDenver International Women's Day Luncheon for the past two years. I think that it is a really powerful experience to be in the same room with so many powerful and inspiring women and other like-minded students from different schools. It's a great opportunity to meet new people while learning about the remarkable achievements of the women representatives.”

“The main reason I wanted to attend was that I had attended a luncheon in a previous year and had an incredible time. It was also a time when I was seeking advice, new connections, and pathways, which I found among the amazing people I met there. My favorite part of the experience was the luncheon itself, especially when a couple of us students had the chance to go up to the speaker, who was the former/first female President of Costa Rica, meet her, and take a few photos with her. It was truly a wholesome experience.”

“I wanted to attend the Women's Day luncheon because I wanted to learn more about women's power and the impact they have on our community. I learned so much from those empowering women and highly recommend going for anyone thinking about it next year.”
Isabel ’32

“I wanted to go to the Women's Day luncheon because the most recent one I attended was very interesting and inspirational. This year's luncheon was just like that, and I will definitely return next year.”

“During the Women's International luncheon, we had the wonderful opportunity to hear from women, including the first female president of Costa Rica, Laura Miranda, who broke down barriers, inspiring us to pursue our goals, instead of being confined to society's ideals.”
