Kent Denver Names Emily Hazard Interim Varsity Field Hockey Coach
Kent Denver Athletics announced Thursday that assistant Emily Hazard has been named interim head coach of the school's varsity field hockey team. A former Division 1 player and a lead assistant coach at Kent Denver for the past four seasons, Coach Hazard will take over the Sun Devils program as they prepare for an exciting season this fall.
Since joining Kent Denver in 2021, Coach Hazard has helped guide Kent Denver to four deep state tournament runs—including two semifinal appearances, one trip to the quarterfinals and a state championship berth last season, where the Sun Devils finished as the state runner-up. Outside of Kent Denver, she also serves as Co-Owner and Coach of the Rocky Mountain Field Hockey Club, where she works with players of all ages to develop skills and a lifelong love of the game.
"We are so excited to have Coach Hazard step into this new role," said Athletic Director Jeff Hollway. "She's been an integral voice on the sidelines these past four seasons. We know that she will continue to do an amazing job fostering a positive, competitive and growth-oriented team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship and personal development for all players in our 6-12 program."
Coach Hazard grew up in Colorado as a successful high school field hockey player at Mountain Vista, before going on to play collegiately at the University of Massachusetts from 2013-2017. She started at goalkeeper as a junior and senior, where she was named to both the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team and the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team.
"I am thrilled about this new opportunity at Kent Denver, a community that has become deeply meaningful to me over the past four years,” said Coach Hazard. “I look forward to building on our strong foundation and leading with purpose and passion as we continue to support our athletes’ growth both on and off the field."
