Kent Denver Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
During special assemblies in the Upper School and Middle School this week, Kent Denver welcomed vocalist Olivia James as we celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Ms. James, who’s also a Guest Artist in our Upper School music classes, took students on a journey through the history of music as it relates to the Civil Rights movement. Focusing on the themes of resistance and resilience, she performed a series of songs that were used to convey powerful messages about Black oppression and the fight for freedom—covering topics like violence in the south, the Underground Railroad and Dr. King’s legacy.
