The fall sports season is heating up, and Kent Denver Athletics is looking forward to what should be an exciting next couple of months across our seven varsity sports. Homecoming Weekend featured six varsity competitions happening on campus in a span of 24 hours.
The highlight of Saturday’s games was the football team’s impressive 42-6 win over Denver Christian to move to 2-0 on the season. The win also bumped the Sun Devils up to the No. 9 spot in CHSAA’s Class 2A rankings. Kent Denver quarterback Yianni B. ’26 received a Play of the Week nomination from the 9NEWS Prep Rally Honor Roll for his incredible scramble and touchdown run in the first quarter. Next up is a huge game Friday, September 20 at Forge Christian at 7 p.m., the No. 2 ranked team in Class 1A, which was nominated for 9NEWS Game of the Week. Be sure to come out and cheer on your Sun Devils!
The Kent Denver field hockey team is now 7-1 and ranked No. 4 in Class 5A. Alden C. ’28 is leading the team with nine goals and four assists through the first half of the season. The team plays next on Tuesday, September 24 at Arapahoe High School at 7:15 p.m.
The Kent Denver cross country team continues to have a terrific season. The Sun Devils impressed at the Sun Runner Invitational over Homecoming Weekend, with Molly Z. ’25 leading the way with a second-place finish to help the girls team place third. The boys team placed fifth at the meet. The next day, Kent Denver competed at the Liberty Bell Invitational. Maddox T. ’27 and Penny K. ’28 both took 17th place in their respective races. Sylvana Y. ’27 came in 21st in the girls race. Next up for cross country is the St. Vrain Invitational in Lyons this Saturday, September 21 at 8 a.m.
Our varsity volleyball team is back in action Thursday, September 19 with a home match against Ralston Valley at 6 p.m. in Yates Pavilion. The defending Metro League champs will look to improve upon their 8-4 record this season.
Boys tennis continued its impressive season with an exciting 4-3 victory over Colorado Academy on Friday night of Homecoming Weekend. The Sun Devils play next in the Full Send Tournament Friday, September 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the Apex Tennis Center in Arvada.
The Kent Denver boys soccer team is on the road Thursday, September 19 at Lutheran at 6:30 p.m., where the Sun Devils will look to bounce back with a win to improve to 4-4 on the season.
The boys golf team finished in third place last week in its most recent Metro League Match. The Sun Devils competed again Thursday, September 19 at the Indian Tree Golf Course.
