A thrilling week for Kent Denver Athletics was highlighted by the girls tennis team winning its first state championship since 2005—in dramatic fashion, no less! The dual-style team tournament came down to one match and a final third set at Denver Tennis Park on Tuesday, May 14. With Kent Denver and Cheyenne Mountain tied 3-3 in the best of seven team format and tied 1-1 in the matchup of No. 1 Doubles, Sun Devils Kendall A. ’24 and Samantha B. ’25 pulled out a narrow 6-4 victory in the third set to bring home the program’s sixth state title!
The team championship came just days after our girls tennis team won three individual state titles over the weekend. Lila M. ’25 captured her second consecutive state championship in No. 1 Singles. Sofia B. ’26 and Claire B. ’27 won the championship in No. 3 Doubles, while Sasha B. ’24 and Margaux L. ’25 took first place in No. 4 Doubles. Kendall and Samantha (No. 1 Doubles, 2nd place) and Annie G. ’25 & Nora R. ’27 (No. 2 Doubles, 3rd place) also finished on the podium. Congratulations to the entire team and head coach Tyffani Thomas on a fantastic season!
