Girls Tennis Takes Second at State, Wins Three Individual Titles
The Kent Denver varsity girls tennis team wrapped up a thrilling end to the season by finishing as the state runner-up in the CHSAA 4A Team State Tournament. After sweeping Air Academy 7-0 in the semifinals, the Sun Devils lost a closely contested 4-2 final match against Cheyenne Mountain on Tuesday at Denver Tennis Park.
These team tournament final matches came just days after Kent Denver had an impressive showing at the individual state tournament—bringing home three state titles and four second-place finishes. Lila Moldenhauer ’25, who is committed to play at Bowdoin College this fall, captured her third consecutive state championship in No. 1 Singles. Claire Bookmyer ’27 and Sofia Begal ’26 won another state title in No. 2 Doubles, one year after the pair won state in No. 3 Doubles. It’s Sofia’s third year in a row winning an individual state championship. In No. 3 Doubles, Samantha B. ’25 and Sofia Piña ’26 captured yet another state championship for the Sun Devils.
In other individual tournament results, Victoria S. ’25 came in second place in No. 2 Singles, Ellie S. ’28 finished as the runner-up in No. 3 Singles, Annie Goldmanis ’25 and Nora Rapp ’27 took second in No. 1 Doubles and Margaux Lively ’25 and Hallie Silverman ’26 were the state runner-up in No. 4 Doubles.
Congratulations to the entire team and head coach Tyffani Thomas on a fantastic season!
