French Classes Deepen Learning Through Guest Speakers

French Classes Deepen Learning Through Guest Speakers

Middle and Upper School students in Kent Denver’s French program have had the amazing opportunity to hear from a variety of guest speakers, immersing them in the language and culture of French-speaking countries and bringing their studies to life.

In Ms. Cain’s Advanced Topics in French class, students connected virtually with Modou Fall, known as the “Plastic Man.” An environmental activist from Senegal, Mr. Fall answered student questions and talked about his efforts to reduce his country’s plastic waste. Ms. Cain also welcomed Amadou Aw, a Senegalese rapper, teacher and social activist who lives in Denver. He joined her Advanced Topics and AP French Language and Culture classes, leading students in an interactive music workshop.

Over in the Middle School, Ms. Genin’s French 1B class read a book about sea turtles and then learned from marine biologist Florence Dell’Amico, who works at the La Rochelle Aquarium in France and specializes in sea turtles.

By connecting classroom lessons to real-world voices, our Sun Devils gain a richer understanding of their coursework while enhancing their language skills.
