Boys Soccer Wins 3A State Championship

Boys Soccer Wins 3A State Championship

The Kent Denver boys soccer team capped off an incredible playoff run with a 1-0 win on Saturday over Steamboat Springs to capture the 3A state championship

Kobe Thai '26 scored the lone goal midway through the second half. From there, the Sun Devils’ stellar defense and incredible goalkeeping of Max Baker '27 held on for the shutout—clinching the first state title for the boys soccer program since 2019.

With this state title, Kent Denver Athletics has now won at least one state championship every school year for 30 straight years—dating back to the 1996-97 season. Watch our video for a look back at all 66 championship teams during this incredible streak over the past three decades.

"It feels like validation for these boys," said head coach Jeb Brovsky, shortly after the team's trophy celebration at Switchbacks Weidner Field in Colorado Springs. "I couldn't be more proud of a group who decided early in the season to be vulnerable, to be confident, to show courage and also to bounce back from resilient moments."

The Sun Devils had a challenging start to the season, going 2-4-3 in their first nine games. From that point on, they won 10 of their next 11 matchups en route to a state title. Watch highlights and reactions from the win here

"I'm so proud of us," said Max, who gave up just one goal throughout the entire playoffs. "We've been through a lot, but we stayed together as a group. Just getting to where we are now, it feels so good."

In other playoff news, the No. 6-ranked Kent Denver football team saw its season come to an end Saturday after a thrilling matchup against No. 3 The Classical Academy in the Class 2A quarterfinals, where the Sun Devils eventually fell in overtime by a score of 49-48.  Seniors Yianni Balafas and Caleb Fay both had standout games on offense to help the team go toe-to-toe with the undefeated Titans—with Yianni contributing to all seven touchdowns, three of which came through the air to Caleb.

The KDS volleyball team's season has also concluded after a couple hard-fought losses in Saturday's regional tournament.

Congratulations to these teams, as well as our other fall sports—boys golf, cross country, field hockey and boys tennis—on a fantastic season!
