We’re two weeks into the fall sports season, and our Sun Devil varsity sports teams are already showing off their strength! Kent Denver volleyball is 3-0, with wins over D’Evelyn, DSST: Montview and DSST: Conservatory Green. The Sun Devils look to make it four straight to start the year as they go up against Bishop Machebeauf on Thursday, September 5 at 6 p.m. in Yates Pavilion.
The field hockey team is also 3-0, having outscored opponents by a total score of 11-1 through the first three games of the year. The Sun Devils have an away matchup Thursday September 5 against Smoky Hill at 4:15 p.m.
The KDS cross country program has had a great showing in its first two races. Over the weekend, the team competed at 10,200 feet in Leadville at the Lake County Invitational. Molly Z. ’25 won the girls race—beating the next closest runner by nearly a minute and a half. Penny K. ’28 (13th place) and Sylvana Y. ’27 (18th place) also cracked the top 20 to help the girls team finish third overall. The boys team took 8th place, led by Maddox T. ’27—who placed 13th overall and beat his time from last year by two minutes.
Football started off the 2024 fall season with a convincing 40-0 shutout victory over Florence last Saturday. Kent Denver is off this weekend but will be back in action next Saturday, September 14 against Denver Christian at 2 p.m. That game is one of six exciting varsity athletic competitions happening on campus during Homecoming Weekend.
Kent Denver boys tennis—winners of the last three 4A team state championships—is 2-1 to start the season. The Sun Devils have played against 5A schools in all three of their matches so far, earning convincing wins over Fossil Ridge and Fairview but losing 5-2 to last year’s 5A state runner-up, Regis Jesuit. The Sun Devils had their Wednesday night match rained out and will next play Friday, September 6 at 4:15 p.m. at Cherry Creek High School.
Kent Denver boys soccer is 1-1 after two close games to begin the school year. The team beat Golden 2-1 in the opener before losing 2-1 in the next game against 5A school Mullen. Next up, the Sun Devils host Fort Lupton on Friday, September 6 at 5 p.m. on DeSo Field as part of the Sun Devil Shootout.
The boys golf team has impressed in its first month of competition. Through four Metro League tournaments, the Sun Devils have had a pair of first-place finishes, one second-place finish and one third-place finish. The team will play again on Thursday, September 12 at 8 a.m. at Thorncreek Golf Course.
