A Historic Night at the Winter Showdown

The third annual Winter Showdown Series between Kent Denver and Colorado Academy will go down in history. In the second game of a thrilling night at DU, Sun Devil senior Caleb reached 2,000 career points—becoming just the 15th high school boys basketball player in Colorado history to hit that milestone. He led the team with 20 points to move into 14th place on CHSAA’s all-time scoring list—helping Kent Denver beat the Mustangs by a score of 75-30 in a rematch of last year’s state championship. The Sun Devils are now 15-3 on the season and ranked No. 2 in Class 4A. 

The night began with an exciting matchup in girls basketball, as the Sun Devils jumped out to an impressive 25-9 lead en route to a 49-36 upset victory over the No. 5 team in the state. Kent Denver is now 11-7 on the season and ranked 6th overall. 

In the finale of the tripleheader, our KDS ice hockey team rallied to tie the game in the second period with a pair of goals from seniors Ryan and Tristin, before eventually losing by a final score of 4-2. The Sun Devils are now 7-7-2 overall. 

In all, Kent Denver took home a victory in two of the three matchups on the night. Not to mention, our swim & dive team had an impressive 129-73 win over CA last week to finish the regular season undefeated! The team is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A heading into league tomorrow, followed by state next Friday.
