Our Plan to Reopen Kent Denver's Campus Safely

This page was last updated at 5 p.m., August 23.

From convening a Medical Advisory Board to hiring a full-time school nurse to creating four levels of operational readiness that allow us to adapt quickly to changing conditions, to offering both on-campus and online school during the 2020-2021 school year, Kent Denver created numerous safeguards for reopening.

Our Plan to Reopen Campus Safely is below. Inside, you will find information about the guiding principles, goals and science-based decision making processes we used to determine how to conduct school safely and well during a pandemic.

This plan was revised at 5 p.m. on August 23. Changes on page 8 provide additional details on how the school will respond when those in our community are exposed to COVID-19 exposure. Click here to download the updated plan to your browser or view the updated plan in the slideshow below.

A Summary of Our Reopening Plan

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kent Denver School will offer both on-campus and online courses during the 2020-2021 school year. We are committed to providing a transformative learning experience for all students—and we believe strongly that parents should decide whether Kent Denver’s on-campus or online learning experience is best for each child.

Please review the Levels of Operation listed below. The elements of each level may change as the pandemic—and the recommended responses to it—evolve. If the numbers of COVID-19 cases in Colorado remain low, our intention is to open in Level 2. However, we also plan to be responsive to changing state and local recommendations as data on the spread of the virus in Colorado continues to be monitored.

To safeguard the health of our community, we adopted new policies that all students and employees are expected or strongly advised to follow. We are optimistic we will be able to offer face-to face-instruction, but only by making some significant changes to how we keep each other safe and healthy. (Click the tabs below to learn more.)

Additional Steps Taken to Safeguard Our Community's Health

  • 4 Levels of Operational Readiness created to provide uninterrupted instruction.
  • Dozens of new hand-sanitizing stations installed throughout campus
  • New MERV 13 and HEPA air filters installed to increase air turnover in campus buildings.
  • Reconfigured classrooms and common areas encourage physical distancing.
  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
  • Advisories, classes and lunch may be held outdoors when possible where face coverings are not required.
  • Full-time school nurse will oversee health practices, guide training and more.

Levels of Operation & Drafts of Related School Schedules

We created these levels based on information available in July. As COVID-19 details continue to evolve, some aspects of these levels may change as well. Please visit this page periodically for the most current information.

As mentioned above, we plan to open in Level 2 if the number of COVID-19 cases in Colorado remain low. This may change to reflect new information.
