Innovation Sustainability Workshop

With climate change threatening the future of our planet, initiatives to minimize our environmental impact are more important than ever. This year, Kent Denver is continuing our role in the sustainability movement with our very own Sustainability Innovation Workshop.

Every Tuesday during the Upper School common free period, these students work with a local company—currently Newton Running—to develop sustainable packaging solutions. Students are discovering that materials found in nature can create better alternatives to non-reusable packaging.

Over the course of the fall semester, students have gone through the entire design process to create a number of different prototypes with a variety of biomaterials.

“So far, I have been really impressed with the group. They are taking the initiative to understand a problem and try to figure out a solution, which is a big ask,” said Office of Innovation Associate Tristan Hess. “A lot of the design process is about failure because you don’t know if something is going to work or not, and then you have to go backand make adjustments.”

Kent Denver’s sustainable packaging project was selected to participate in the Global Championship of the World Affairs Challenge on April 1st.
