Fall
Cross Country: Kent Denver’s girls cross country team had an amazing season—winning Regionals and nabbing a 5th-place finish at state. As part of that finish, four Kent Denver runners placed in the top 40!
Football: In Riley Newcomer’s first year as head coach, the team finished the season with a record of 3-6. But the record does not tell the entire story, as the Sun Devils only had two games with a margin of defeat of more than eight points. The future is bright for this young team and coach!
Field Hockey: The No. 3 ranked field hockey team made it all the way to the state semifinals before losing a hard-fought 1-0 game against Regis Jesuit. The Sun Devils finished the year with an impressive 13-3-1 overall record.
Boys Golf: Kent Denver took first place at Regionals out of 22 teams—winning the tournament by 9 strokes! As a bonus, the Sun Devils had the top 1-2-3 individual finishes as well. The team also took 4th place at state.
Boys Soccer: The boys soccer team ended its season in a closely contested second round state tournament matchup against Peak to Peak, finishing the year 10-7 overall.
Boys Tennis: The Sun Devils won their second consecutive team state championship and the 12th overall in school history. They also captured individual state titles in No. 1 Singles, No. 3 Singles, No. 2 Doubles and No. 4 Doubles. Coach Ian Hintz was named CHSAA 4A Coach of the Year, and two-time No. 1 singles state champion Nathan Gold ‘25 was named 4A Player of the Year.
Volleyball: The Sun Devils volleyball squad won two of its three Metro League tournament matches and finished in seventh place. The team headed all the way to La Jara (in the San Luis Valley) for Regionals, where the Sun Devils ended their season with two tough losses to finish the year 13-12.
Winter
Boys Basketball: New milestones were reached this year, as senior Ethan Levin became just the fifth Kent Denver boys basketball player to hit the 1,000 career point mark and head coach Todd Schayes notched win number 500. Schayes is the 13th Colorado coach to reach this milestone and the 3rd to get all 500 wins at one school! The team made it to the Sweet 16 of the 4A state tournament and finished the year with an impressive 20-5 record.
Girls Basketball: Our No. 15 ranked KDS girls basketball team beat No. 18 Moffat County 56-52 in a first-round postseason matchup at home. Kent Denver moved on to the Sweet 16 and fell short against No. 2 D’Evelyn on the road. Finishing this year with a 17-8 record, our girls team has some really good young talent and will look to bounce back in a big way next winter!
Ice Hockey: While the regular season included many exciting moments, one of the most thrilling was the Sun Devils’ overtime win against No.1 ranked Glenwood Springs. The team continued their clutch play in the first round of the playoffs, taking down Summit High School 3-2 in another overtime battle. The Sun Devils ultimately bowed out in the quarterfinals of the 4A state tournament after a hard-fought double overtime loss to Steamboat Springs. The team finished the season with a 12-9 record.
Swim & Dive: Kent Denver’s girls swim and dive team had an amazing end to the season—finishing 2nd place in the Tri Peaks Leagues Championship and 9th at state! In addition to the top 10 state finish, senior diver Davis Patteson was named the 3A Diver of the Year—an honor voted on by all Colorado 3A coaches.
