Kent Denver is delighted to welcome Shareena Mundodi as our Director of Equity and Community Engagement starting in July 2022. She currently serves as Director of Community Life at Charlotte Preparatory School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"After interviewing numerous candidates it became clear that Shareena offers a unique skill set unmatched by others," Head of School Emeritus Rand Harrington said. "We are thrilled that she will be able to continue with the excellent work that Jason Mundy has accomplished and move us even further along the path to creating a truly inclusive community."

Ms. Mundodi is well-equipped to lead Kent Denver’s DEI and community engagement efforts. In her current role at Charlotte Preparatory School, she has developed and implemented policies, procedures and programs to sustain a culturally competent, inclusive school community. She helped the school complete an institutional cultural climate assessment and is leading the development of a five-year DEI strategic plan, while providing valuable support to the entire school community as they met the challenges of finding common ground during the COVID pandemic.

Ms. Mundodi also brings a wealth of international experience and multicultural awareness to Kent Denver. She has lived and worked in Bangalore, India; Santiago, Chile; Campinas, Brazil; and Nanjing and Shanghai, China, where she held positions in public affairs, communications, editing, and program development. Shareena was a presenter at TEDx in Nanjing and served as a volunteer and consultant for Nanjing International School and Shanghai Community International School.

As we prepare to welcome Ms. Mundodi and her family to Kent Denver, we also extend a very fond farewell to Jason Mundy. Mr. Mundy was Kent Denver's first Director of Equity and Community Engagement, and his efforts to create a more welcoming, inclusive and diverse school community have forever changed Kent Denver for the better.

When Mr. Mundy joined Kent Denver as a Teaching Fellow in 1996, he was a newly-minted Duke University graduate. From the very start, he stood out for his kindness, good humor, keen empathy and ability to connect with students, colleagues and parents. Over his 17-year tenure at Kent Denver—which included a nine-year pause to pursue positions as a middle and high school division head at other schools—Mr. Mundy has served as a teacher, advisor, dean, diversity coordinator and division director.

When asked to reflect on his time at our school, Mr. Mundy said he is most proud of his work on the DEI Plan, which sets a course for the future and is helping inform the Board of Trustees’ latest strategic planning process, and in improving our recruitment and support for diverse employees, students and families. “We have made some real progress and the school is a better place for everyone because of it,” Jason said.

Starting this summer, Mr. Mundy will serve as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Engagement at Durham Academy, a K-12 day school in Durham, North Carolina, bringing him closer to family and lifelong friends in his home state of North Carolina.

Thank you Mr. Mundy for ALL you have done for Kent Denver School!
