Brooke Brewer Named Executive Director of Breakthrough
This winter, Kent Denver School announced that Brooke Brewer is taking the helm as Executive Director for Breakthrough at Kent Denver.
Ms. Brewer has been the Program Director with Breakthrough at Kent Denver for the past 10 years. In that time, she’s been instrumental in furthering Breakthrough’s mission to provide year-round social and educational opportunities to motivated, financially under-resourced middle and high school students—preparing them for college and beyond, while also training current college students for careers in education. She has played a pivotal role in Breakthrough expanding college access resources as part of its college-bound program, helping the organization evolve to include not just a middle and high school program, but college counseling, college application support, free SAT prep and more for its students.
“I feel very honored and really excited,” says Ms. Brewer, who was first introduced to Breakthrough as a student in 2002. “The organization has been a part of my life for 20 years, and I love it deeply. Having this opportunity to continue to innovate what’s already amazing about Breakthrough is a dream for me.”
Breakthrough Collaborative is a national organization focused on educational equity, which serves 24 affiliates around the country that aim to create strong educational experiences for traditionally underrepresented students on their path to college. Kent Denver is the only affiliate in Colorado, as the school has partnered with Breakthrough to provide facilities and other resources for the program.
“Breakthrough has been doing good work for so long, and in some ways it has been Kent Denver’s best-kept secret,” Ms. Brewer says. “We look forward to connecting with the community even more and streamlining our already strong partnerships.”
In addition to her amazing work with Breakthrough, Ms. Brewer is also Kent Denver’s Upper School Diversity Coordinator, as well as an assistant coach with the JV girls’ basketball team.
