KDS: Describe what you are doing now. How has your current work harnessed your expertise and your passions?
ML: I have a master’s in Applied Data Science, and my work has spanned both private and public sectors. I have experience in data analysis, as well as strategy work, and what I am doing now combines those two different realms of work. My real expertise is blending statistical analysis and data visualization with business strategy and storytelling. What I am most passionate about is bridging the gap between data and business by ensuring that we can tell the data story in a compelling way that propels decisions and actions forward.
KDS: What makes you feel most fulfilled about what you are currently doing?
ML: I am very grateful that I can blend a lot of my passions together. Working in cloud management, increasing digital literacy in communities and meeting wonderful people that continue to show me how to grow as a leader in the artificial intelligence industry—those elements of my work are incredibly fulfilling to me.
KDS: What feels most challenging about your current work or this phase of your professional life?
ML: Generative AI is such a buzzword today. The most challenging part about my work is navigating the best way to up-skill communities to be able to participate in the Data Revolution era so our economies are secure 10 to 30 years from now. It is challenging working to ensure that there are not certain communities that are left behind, especially when change is happening at such a fast pace.
KDS: How did your Kent Denver education prepare you for what you are doing now?
ML: Kent’s value of excellence in leadership, character and scholarship really prepared me for the intangible skills that have a lasting impact on my work today. For example, when navigating a team with various stakeholders from developers to project managers, I bring a level of curiosity to every meeting that was encouraged at Kent. Ultimately, this has helped me to build a human-centered approach with my teams when tackling data challenges and creating solutions for those around us.
KDS: How does being an alumna of Kent Denver School impact your sense of self now?
ML: Being an alumna of Kent Denver School reinforces my commitment to excellence and leadership in all my endeavors. It reminds me to uphold the values of integrity and continuous learning, which are crucial in my current roles and responsibilities.
KDS: Can you share a Kent Denver memory that brings you joy?
ML: My fondest memory is going to the CHSAA state basketball tournament. The entire trip was new, and it was really fun bonding with the team and competing at a high level.
