Athlete WellnessAt Kent Denver, we support the whole student-athlete—mind, body and lifestyle. Our dedication to wellness prepares the body for high-caliber competition, equips the mind to overcome challenges and guides our student-athletes to embrace a balanced lifestyle.
The Importance of Movement
At its core, Kent Denver Athletics helps students stay active in a fun, emotionally stimulating and competitive environment. Through sport and exercise, we support athletes in their social, emotional and character development, while also benefiting their physical and mental health now and into the future.
A Healthy, Balanced Lifestyle
Success here is defined by more than just wins and losses. It's our mission to help students lead healthy, balanced lives through middle school, high school and beyond. That starts with an emphasis on overall athlete wellness—from strength and performance to mental health, stress management, nutrition and sleep. It's this holistic approach that sets Kent Denver apart.
The Mind & Performance
Each year, the Kent Denver Athletics and Wellness departments team up to offer learning opportunities for student-athletes on topics of leadership, personal growth, college recruiting and mental health in sports. In addition to hearing from world-class guest speakers in our Scobie Institute for Wellness Speaker Series, Upper School student-athletes can also dive deeper into this teaching with electives classes like Introduction to Sport & Performance Psychology, Introduction to Mindfulness, Introduction to Positive Psychology: The Science of Well-Being and more.
The annual celebration of Ethics Day provides another avenue for young athletes to learn about emotional regulation in sport. In recent years, Kent Denver has invited world renowned psychologists and other industry leaders to campus on Ethics Day to facilitate group discussions on the importance of self-reflection, leading with character and taking care of your mental health.
Understanding how to support and lift up those around us, seeking personal growth, processing success and failure—these are just some of the skills we learn through athletics that benefit both our physical and mental health. Our success as a program is not just measured by wins and losses but also by the way in which we support students in their pursuit of emotional, social and character development.Jeff Hollway Athletic Director
