During this class, students will participate in an hour-long workout twice a week. The class is designed to enhance fitness and health and establish a strong understanding of the physiological adaptations of fitness: strength, cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, flexibility, stamina, speed and power.
Workouts will incorporate different exercises:
- Weightlifting: Barbells, dumbbells, medicine balls, kettlebells—using any resistance other than bodyweight
- Gymnastics: Pull-ups, push-ups, box jumps, etc.
- Monostructural movements: Running, rowing, jumping rope, carrying items, sled pushes
These will be blended into a wide variety of combinations; focus will always be on mechanics first, then consistency, adding intensity once the first two are mastered. Students should complete this course with a definitive understanding of how to execute functional movements properly and safely, and they should feel comfortable using Kent Denver’s weight room.
