Our Theater Program
Acting
Kent Denver offers several opportunities for students to shine on stage. In 6th grade, students are introduced to theater as part of their arts rotation. In 7th and 8th grade, students can participate in the fall play or spring musical as a class during the academic day. Eighth graders in Middle School productions are also eligible to audition for Upper School productions as part of the Theater Bridge program.
In Upper School, students can audition for the fall play, winter musical, or spring musical revue, where students perform songs from contemporary and classical musicals. During the academic day, students can enroll in the theater games course, The Art of Play, the technique course, Acting, the touring production course, ACTion Play, or the Applied Performance Practicum, where actors get credit for their participation in productions. During the summer, a credit-bearing intensive in directing is offered through Summer at Kent Denver.
Technical Theater
Technical Theater Workshop offers a hands-on exploration of the fundamentals of stagecraft and theatrical design. This course will cover the entire theatrical creative process, covering topics such as set design and construction, lighting design, sound design, scene painting, drafting, play analysis and careers in technical theater.
Advanced technical theater students have the opportunity to participate in an asynchronous program that supports all assemblies, programs and after school theatrical events as part of Practicum in Advanced Technical Theater. Students enrolled in this program not only gain credit for their time, but they are paid to support Kent Denver programs in the arts facilities that occur outside of normal school hours.
