Acting

Students interested in the dramatic arts have a wide array of classes and extracurricular offerings to choose from each year. In middle school, students in 6th grade are exposed to the basics of theatre as part of their arts rotation. In 7th and 8th grade, students practice communication skills and gain confidence on stage through Theatre 1 and 2.

In the two-year, conservatory-style Acting I and II sequence in the Upper School, students are introduced to and explore basic techniques in acting through movement, physical and vocal exercises, improvisation, script analysis, scene work, monologues and short plays.

In Guerilla Rep Honors, students work together to devise and stage original theatrical pieces for performance. Ensemble members are responsible for all creative and technical elements of production, discovering all that our theatre program has to offer.

Technical Theatre

In our Technical Theatre Workshop, starting in 6th grade, students get their first hands-on application into the art of technical theatre as part of their arts rotation. By 7th and 8th grade, students are supporting the Middle School Fall Play or Spring Musical through set builds, lights and sound, all while learning the technical elements required to produce a play or musical.

As part of the Upper School Technical Theatre Workshop, students work year-round to maintain the theatrical spaces, make general improvements to the arts facilities and support both the Upper School Fall Play and Winter Musical while also providing technical support for all events happening in the Student Center for the Arts.

Advanced technical theatre students have the opportunity to participate in an asynchronous program that supports all assemblies, programs and after school theatrical events as part of Practicum in Advanced Technical Theatre. Students enrolled in this program not only gain credit for their time, but they are paid to support Kent Denver programs in the arts facilities that occur outside of normal school hours.
