Acclaimed author Julie Lythcott-Haims visited Kent Denver recently to discuss her bestselling book, How to Raise an Adult, our latest One School, One Book selection.
How to Raise an Adult has earned outstanding reviews from numerous U.S. and international media outlets including Fox & Friends, Inside Higher Ed, MSNBC, The Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, and the U.K.'s Telegraph and The Independent.
In her book, Ms. Lythcott-Haims draws on research, conversations with admissions officers, educators and employers, and on her own insights as a mother and Stanford dean. By highlighting the ways in which "over-parenting" harms children and offering practical alternative strategies, she shows parents how to allow their kids to develop the resilience, resourcefulness and inner determination necessary for success.
Following a presentation at the Upper School Assembly that garnered a lengthy, standing ovation from high school students, Ms. Lythcott-Haims sat for a videotaped interview with Head of School Rand Harrington. Later, she delivered a powerful presentation for Kent Denver parents, guardians and educators.
