This week, our school community learned that the 2021-22 school year will be Head of School Rand Harrington's eighth and final year at Kent Denver.
"With our emergence from the global COVID-19 pandemic on the horizon, our reputation as Colorado's preeminent independent school secure, and an experienced Board and senior leadership team providing stability and continuity, I feel it is both my honor and my duty to pass the Headship to a new leader who will direct our school's next steps with a fresh perspective," Dr. Harrington wrote. "Be assured that I will be fully focused on leading the school and collaborating with the Board and my successor to ensure a smooth and effective transition throughout the coming year."
The nationwide search for Kent Denver's next visionary leader is already underway and will be led by Kent Denver's Board of Trustees. The board is working carefully and quickly to form a Head of School search committee and to retain an experienced search firm to assist in these efforts. Kent Denver is also developing opportunities for our community to share recommendations, feedback, and evaluations throughout this important process.
"Leadership transitions are not uncommon in independent schools. Kent Denver, and our founding institutions, The Kent School for Girls and Denver Country Day School, have had 14 Heads in our collective 99-year history," Trustees wrote in a special message to the KDS community. "Each Head of School brought unique strengths to the role and each left their successor a foundation on which to build. Kent Denver's future has never been brighter ... Please join us in thanking Rand for his dedication and impactful service."
Updates on the search for Kent Denver's next Head of School and opportunities for community input will be posted on the Head of School Search page throughout the search process.
