Kent Denver Athletics Extends Its State Championship Streak

After an incredibly successful fall 2023 season, Kent Denver has now seen at least one of its varsity sports teams win a state championship every season since 1996-97—an incredible 28-year streak! This year, the boys tennis team added its name to the history books once again—capping off an incredible season by winning CHSAA’s 4A team state title for the third year in a row.

In addition to the team victory, Kent Denver boys tennis brought home three more titles at the individual state championships in Pueblo. Congratulations to seniors Andrew and Zach Morgan (No. 2 Doubles), Colton Maas '24 and Simon Hirsch '25 (No. 3 Doubles), and Liam O'Drobinak '26 and Cole Fenton '25 (No. 4 Doubles) for winning state in their divisions! Tyler Haymons ’24 and Jack Cramer ’25 came in second place in No. 1 Doubles, while Sebastian Boada ’24 came in third place in No. 3 Singles. Juniors Will Moldenhauer (No. 1 Singles) and Max Gart (No. 2 Singles) made it to the semifinals of their respective individual tournaments. And of course, every one of these players—including Noah Bogel ’27, who teamed up with Liam O’Drobinak to win their No. 4 Doubles matchup—had a pivotal role in securing Kent Denver’s team state championship a few days later in Denver.

The Kent Denver volleyball team had the best season in school history—winning the Metro league and hosting the regional tournament. The Sun Devils came within one set of qualifying for the state tournament, losing 3-2 in the final match of Regionals against Valley. The team finished the season 22-3 and 10-0 in league play.

Our boys soccer team entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed after an incredible regular season. The team won its first round matchup before being knocked out in round two against Coal Ridge. The Sun Devils finished the year 12-3-2 overall and look forward to being strong contenders again next year.

Football had an incredible undefeated regular season to enter the 2A state playoffs as the No. 2 seed before being knocked out in a close game against three-time defending state champion Eaton High School.

Girls Cross Country Team with Regionals Second Place Trophy

After placing second at Regionals, the girls cross country team finished 18th at CHSAA’s 3A state championship meet in Colorado Springs. Molly Zann ’25 capped off a terrific season with a top-20 individual finish, coming in 19th place to lead the Sun Devils across the finish line. The boys team also had a great season, just barely missing out on state qualification after a strong performance at Regionals.

Field Hockey saw its season come to an end after a hard-fought shootout loss to No. 5 St. Mary’s Academy in the state quarterfinals. Kent Denver finished the year with an 11-5 overall record.

The Kent Denver boys golf team placed fourth at the CHSAA 3A State Championship—with two of our four seniors finishing in the top 10 individually! Senior Carter Rapp led the way in seventh place, with teammate Lev Abramson finishing just one stroke behind in eighth.

A successful season couldn’t have happened without our incredible fall coaches. Congratulations to the following varsity head coaches who won Coach of the Year honors in their respective sports: Ian Hintz (boys tennis), Danny Main (boys soccer), Emily Dantiz (volleyball) and Riley Newcomer (football)!
