TUITION ASSISTANCE

Kent Denver School is committed to enrolling a socio-economically diverse student body. Through the generous contributions of Kent Denver families, friends of the school, auxiliary programs, and investment income, the school offers some $2.2 million in tuition assistance to about 22% of the student body each year.

Applying for tuition assistance does not affect one's chances for admission; applicants are accepted for admission on a need-blind basis. Once accepted, a student's financial need is determined using the guidelines of FACTS (Grant & Aid Assessment service) and Kent Denver's own policies. Financial aid awards are granted on the basis of need; there are no academic or athletic scholarships. Please click on the link on the right to download a copy of our Tuition Assistance Brochure.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is tuition assistance determined at Kent Denver?

Tuition assistance at Kent Denver is based on need. Kent Denver’s Financial Aid Committee determines a family’s need based on two factors: 1) recommendations from FACTS Grant Aid Assessment—a third-party entity that takes into consideration several financial factors including income, debt, assets, the number of family members who attend a tuition-based school, etc.; and 2) information provided by the applicant directly to the school. Keep in mind that the recommendations from FACTS serve only as a guideline, and the final decision on tuition assistance is made by Kent Denver’s Financial Aid Committee.

How do I apply for tuition assistance at Kent Denver?

Email Susan Green (sgreen@kentdenver.org) to let her know you are interested in receiving a financial aid application. Please include your mailing address! Financial aid information will be mailed to you in December.

For divorced parents: Does my ex-wife/ex-husband—who does not contribute financially on behalf of the applicant—have to participate in the process?

If your ex-spouse does not participate in the financial aid process, your chances of receiving tuition assistance may be jeopardized. In certain circumstances, Kent Denver’s Financial Aid Committee may accept confirmation from a third party that can bear witness to the family’s situation.

How many Kent Denver students receive tuition assistance?

Currently, 21% of our students receive some form of tuition assistance. Our total financial aid budget is $2.2 million annually. Kent Denver awards more tuition assistance awards each year than any other independent school in Colorado.

What is the range of awards?

Tuition assistance awards range from $1,000 through almost full tuition support. The average award is approximately $14,000. Each family is asked to contribute at least a nominal amount toward the cost of a Kent Denver education.

Does tuition assistance help with our incidental expenses?

The Financial Aid Committee examines a student’s incidental costs—such as books, a computer, trip fees, class fees and transportation to and from school—on a case-by-case basis.

When will I find out if our family has received tuition assistance?

Notification about tuition assistance awards will be mailed along with a student’s letter of acceptance in late February (for high school) or early March (for middle school).

Once I am granted tuition assistance, do I automatically receive it every year? Will the amount of aid stay the same every year?

Tuition assistance awards are not guaranteed to stay the same year to year; in fact, they will change as families’ financial circumstances change. Families are required to submit a new financial aid application every year. Students must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing in order to qualify for tuition assistance.

TUITION INSURANCE

Because Kent Denver School's expenses for each enrolled student are not reduced if a student withdraws, the school cannot forfeit tuition paid or cancel charges if the student leaves for any reason. A tuition refund plan is offered to assist parents with this financial obligation and is available at the time of the first tuition billing at a nominal cost. Click here to learn more.

Malone Scholars

Kent Denver is the proud recipient of a $2 million grant from the Malone Family Foundation. This grant enables us to award scholarships (each up to 100% of tuition and school-related costs) to five to seven exceptional Malone Scholars each year. Kent Denver was one of four schools nationwide to be honored with an endowment from the Malone Family Foundation in 2006. The Malone Scholar Endowment Fund significantly increases Kent Denver’s ability to offer scholarships and school-related expenses to exceptionally motivated and capable students with financial need in grades 7 through 12. Kent Denver was chosen to receive this generous gift based on high academic caliber, quality of school staff, attention to individual student needs, interests and talents, financial strength and stability, a commitment to financial aid, and an economically, culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse population
