On Tue., March 7, Kent Denver's Speech and Debate program put on an amazing display at their annual Showcase, which provides an opportunity to see the team in action and shows why judges at events in Colorado and across the country consider our students to be among the nation's very best.
Performances included Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, a lively example of Cross-Examination Debate, and Colorado's newest competition category, Informative Speaking, in which a speaker may use visual aids to reinforce her or his point.
Showcase showed just a glimpse of why the program had such an incredible winter, competing in more than 10 tournaments in Colorado and three other states. At the California Invitational, one of the nation's top high school events, Kent Denver finished sixth out of more than 200 schools. And over the weekend of March 4-5, 39 KDS speech and debaters went to the State qualifying tournament at George Washington High School. Several students won their events at the tournament, and 20 qualified for State later this month.
Congratulations to Terry Rubin, Mike Bausch, and the rest of the Speech and Debate Team!
