 | Kent Denver math teacher Donna Duvall-Serrano founded the Kent Denver Credit Union in September 1984 to give students an opportunity to participate in and learn about the financial world through hands-on experience. In 2007, the Credit Union merged with Westerra, which recently was awarded the top rating for safety and soundness by Bauer Financial. Depositors are now insured up to $250,000.
Access to Kent Denver accounts is not limited to school hours. We have full-service online access, as well as 160 local locations and over 3,800 nationwide; our members can use any Westerra branch or Colorado CU Service center. Also, more than 800 local, free ATMs and 28,000 nationwide are available for use by our members. We offer savings accounts, checking accounts, CDs, loans, mortgages, debit cards, ATM cards, and credit cards. Please visit www.westerracu.com for more information.
The Kent Denver branch is managed by Debbie Keesling and staffed by students, providing a unique hands-on experience. Ours is the largest student-run credit union in the country! In addition, our deposits total about $1.5 million from the school community alone. Our credit union caters to a wide range of community members, including students, employees, alumni, family members, and school organizations and clubs. “We’re fortunate to have such a handy service at our fingertips! Zipping to the Credit Union during the lunch hour is an extremely convenient way to cash a Payflex reimbursement check, deposit the loose change you find in the hallways, get a check to mail to a creditor, or simply learn some names of kids you don’t already know. Getting to another bank during regular business hours is a hassle, so I appreciate being able to take care of my banking needs here at school. An added bonus is that we get to watch the kids in action as they enthusiastically greet us, add, subtract, search various computer screens, and ask us to please correctly fill out the paperwork, which I’m still trying to perfect. I recommend opening an account––even if you elect not to have the Credit Union handle all of your finances––because it’s a terrific way to support our kids. Plus, I know all of my hallway change is in safe hands!” |

 | Ms. Michelle Neely Math Teacher “I love being a Westerra Credit Union member! Having banked with only credit unions for over a decade, I love their convenience, low costs (if any), and overall flexibility while working with me. Westerra’s location, here on our campus, makes my membership with them all that more valuable to me. It is so easy to have a portion of my paycheck deposited in a savings account that I try not to use. However, I am able to access my money easily and quickly whenever necessary. How many banks are so convenient that you can get to them on your way to lunch? I highly encourage you to become a member. Please come speak with me if you have any further questions.”

Why Should You Open an Account? Grow Your Money! When you put money in a savings account or CD with the Credit Union, you will make money simply by leaving your money with the Credit Union. All you have to do is make a deposit and you will be able to watch your money grow. Keep your money safe! You probably understand that it is important to keep your money in a safe place. The Kent Denver Credit Union is that safe place. You do not have to worry about the security of your money once it is in the Credit Union, because that money (up to $250,000 per account) is insured.
Something for Everyone! You can get a savings account, checking account, CD, mortgage, or car loan. For all of these services, we offer great rates. If you are 16, you can get a debit card, so you don’t even need to stop by a Westerra branch to get money to buy something; you can simply use the debit card or use it to get money from an ATM. With a Westerra ATM card, you can use ATMs all over the country, so you can take this account into college.
Education! Account holders learn through their experiences with the Credit Union. Having an account helps people understand more about their personal finances. Account holders learn how to manage a bank account, and they learn the advantages of putting money in a savings account.

| The Kent Denver Credit Union student staff is made up of two groups: the Marketing Committtee (run by upper school students) and the Tellers (juniors and seniors apply for these positions). The Marketing Committee finds ways to help the credit union run more efficiently and works to educate the Kent Denver community about the benefits of opening accounts and working with the Credit Union. Staff members at the Credit Union plan fun and exciting contests, designed to attract new members and keep current members active with their accounts. Tellers are juniors and seniors who apply to work during their off periods. They help manage accounts and assist customers of the Credit Union with making deposits and withdrawals. |
